The photo on the left is a nicer picture of the scenery, but the one on the right is a better picture of the people. The point is that with a very minimal photo enhancement, details that you know were there, but can't be seen, can be seen.
This photo does not have any damage to the person or any background that is complex. A new border, patch the sidewalk, a touch of sepia and it was good to go.
